We are committed to building a world-class development that will benefit our province, its residents, and our country, while contributing to the global fight against climate change.
We believe in being good neighbours. That’s why we engage with communities, Qalipu First Nation and regional leaders to share information and address concerns.
Project Nujio’qonik will deliver substantial local economic benefits, long-term employment, supply chain benefits, world-class training opportunities, and green energy leadership to Newfoundland and Labrador.
Bringing benefits
to our communities
We are committed to providing benefits to our communities, our region, and our province as we build Project Nujio’qonik, a cost-effective, safety-focused green hydrogen / ammonia production facility in one of the world’s best wind resource regions.
The project will bring economic development to the region, from increased tax revenues and increased demand for services and amenities across western Newfoundland. Infrastructure in the area will also benefit as roads and harbour facilities will be created and maintained to support this growing industry.
Project Nujio’qonik will also generate high-skilled, high-paying jobs. We estimate that the first phase of the project will create 2,200 direct construction jobs, 400 operations jobs, and 4,200 indirect jobs. We are committed to working with local, qualified suppliers and service providers and ensuring that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have access to world-class education and skills training.
We will continue to work with our neighbours across the province to ensure that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians benefit from this world-leading green energy project.
Preserving our
environment
Protecting our natural resources for future generations is always top of mind.
Project Nujio’qonik will surpass the highest global standards for emissions and sustainability, and we will design, construct, and operate the project following all applicable environmental regulations and guidance.
There are thousands of wind turbines operating around the world. The industry has learned and evolved from this wealth of global experience, developing approaches to reduce effects on wildlife and birds that have become standard practice and are required by regulators.
In April 2024, The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador released Project Nujio’qonik from further Environmental Assessment following an intensive evaluation of the world’s first Environmental Impact Statement for a fully integrated, commercial scale wind-to-green hydrogen project.
First Nation Partnerships
We are committed to Truth and Reconciliation Call to Action 92 and are working to ensure that Indigenous communities gain long-term, sustainable benefits from Project Nujio’qonik. We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Qalipu First Nation, and have begun capacity-building activities designed to leave a permanent legacy of prosperity and environmental excellence.
